TRONQUISTA - HOFFA'S BLUES
"Hoffa's Blues/Teamsters Holiday" , deux titres interprétés par un chanteur inconnu ? édité sur l'obscur label Tronquista [ TRO- 01 A / TRO- 01 B] dans les années 1950 ? En référence à Jimmy Hoffa, né le 14 février 1913 à Brazil, Indiana, devenu dans les années 1930, l'organisateur du puissant syndicat des camionneurs, jouant un rôle clé dans l'établissement de la première convention de transport national de fret. envoyé en prison en 1967 pour sabotage, fraude et complot, il disparaît mystérieusement en 1975, alors qu'il se rendait dans un restaurant avec certain de ses associés. Il n'a jamais été revu, les événements qui ont eu lieu ce jour là reste un mystère. il est censé avoir été assassiné. Voici donc cet obscur single - interprété par un chanteur inconnu - avec l'excellent "Hoffa's Blues". Up date: Merci à DJ Lucien pour le complément d'informations sur l'origine de ce single qui aurait été enregistré en 1966 (bien que la chanson soit dans l’esprit des R&B/Blues des '50) par des partisans en soutien à Jimmy Hoffa, alors sous le coup de la justice du gouvernement Kennedy pour ses liens avec la mafia, et présenté à la Convention International des Camionneurs en juillet 1966 à Miami. Le choix du nom du label "Tronquista"n'est pas un hasard puisqu'il serait la traduction Espagnol de camionneur. Bonjour Gérard, merci pour ces informations complémentaires! Oui ce single a très probablement été enregistré à Detroit, étant donné que Jimmy Hoffa y officiait, et surement en 1966 comme le signal DJ Lucien qui doit en avoir l'information. DJ Lucien qui par ailleurs est a la tête d'une des plus grosse et plus belle collection de Belgique, surtout en "Popcorn" et Motown. En ce qui concerne le chanteur "inconnu", plusieurs voix sont susceptibles d’être celle du single, dont celle de Jimmy Witherspoon ?

Bienvenu sur ce blog dédié a la musique Soul, Northern, Groove, R&B, Doo wop, Funk..etc. On y retrouvera aussi le style Popcorn-Oldies au travers de certains titres empruntés aux différants genres pour leurs Grooves " médium tempo " un style crée en Belgique par certains dj dans les années fin 60’ arrangeant même quand il le fallait les rythmes trop rapide en ajustant la vitesse du disque pour le rendre médium tempo propre a la danse en vigueur a l’époque, un genre de soulswing, le Bop !.Mais cette musique Popcorn-Oldies (certes, choisies pour son groove particulier dans les différants genres) est en définitive de la musique Soul, R&B, Blues, Doo Wop, etc.Il sera donc ici question essentiellement des courants musicaux originels : Soul, Northern, Groove, R&B, Doo Wop, Blues, Funk..etc....

Merci pour ce superbe morceau que je ne connaissais pas. L'excellent DJ Lucien situe ce disque sur sa chaîne YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyqBB_Px6Ng) en 1966 peut-être enregistré à Detroit. Il donne également quelques pistes quant au chanteur anonyme et j'avoue que la voix me fait effectivement songer à Jimmy Witherspoon? Voici le texte de DJ Lucien: Hoffa's blues sang by an anonymous singer on Tronquista record n° TRO-01. The B side: Teamsters holiday is an instrumental. This record pays tribute to Jimmy Hoffa, the charismatic president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and a famous character in the contemporary people history of the USA. The use of Tronquista to name the label which is the spanish word for teamster or truck driver, the anonymous singer who sings a wonderful rhythm'n'blues typical of the mid fifties make this record quite enigmatic. Its main purpose was political and part of a big fight back campaign against the media and the accusations of an obssessed Robert Kennedy during the early 1960's, who was at the time the general attorney of his brother John Fitzgerald Kennedy governement . This record is from 1966 and first sold in july of 1966 at Miami's International Teamsters Convention. They choose that place because Jimmy Hoffa was first elected President of the IBT in that same Miami's Auditorium back in 1958. The choice of not mentioning the singer's name on one unique independant label Tronquista (maybe a contribution by the South American deleguees of the IBT) confirms the non commercial purpose of this record and explains its rarity. The singer's voice is very similar to Jimmy Whitherspoon, Arthur Prysock, Billy Eckstine, or even the obscure soul singer Cleveland Robinson... Today Jimmy Hoffa is still "alive" through popular jokes and many references in films and tv shows, mainly for his enigmatic disapearing, death and for his links with the mob or maffia. He even played a very important part in the strategy of the election of John F. Kennedy in 1960. Very keen in the social workers rights and friendly to the Civil Rights mouvement (that can also explain the anonymous Black soul jazz vocalist), Jimmy Hoffa will remain one of the most important character in the most important Workers Union of the USA. An article "Fighting Hoffa's blues" was written in the 15th of july 1966 edition of Time magazine srarting with the lyrics of this record. This 45rpm record is now highly sought after by the irreducible popcorn oldies collectors and fifties R'n'B dj's!
